Around the square
Milwaukee Avenue runs through the square, with more bars along Kedzie and Fullerton. Logan Square's places lean neighborhood rather than destination, which is the point: the room you'd go back to next week.
Where to eat
Daisies
Joe Frillman's Midwestern pasta restaurant in Logan Square, much of its produce from his brother's farm and its sustainability work rewarded with a Michelin Green Star. Leigh Omilinsky's café counter does pastries in the morning.
Mi Tocaya Antojería
Diana Dávila's Logan Square restaurant, cooking from her family's travels across Mexico: regional plates you won't find elsewhere in town. The burrito suizo is a Wednesday special. Tuesdays take half off bottles of wine.
Paulie Gee's Logan Square
Derrick Tung's Chicago branch of the Brooklyn pizzeria: wood-fired pies like the hot-honey Hellboy, lots of vegan options, and Detroit-style 'Logan Squares' from the recipe that won him the 2018 U.S. Pizza Cup. Tuesday and Wednesday, 5 to 7, margheritas drop to $10; Thursday is trivia night.
Andros Taverna
Doug Psaltis named it for his family's island: whole Slagel Farms lamb dry-aged and butchered in-house, pitas stretched to order, fish flown in from the Mediterranean and grilled over charcoal, and an all-Greek wine list. Big and busy; bring a group. Ask what fish came in that day; weekend brunch brings tsoureki French toast.
Lula Cafe
A Logan Square fixture since 1999 whose brunch helped define the neighborhood. The menu follows the farmers' market, so it shifts every few weeks.
Kyōten
Otto Phan, an Austin transplant, opened this counter in 2018, early in Chicago's omakase wave. His nigiri leans on Edo-style curing and aging, and the 2025 Banchet Awards named him chef of the year. One of the city's priciest meals.
Akahoshi Ramen
Everything is made in-house here, noodles included. The name means 'red star,' a nod to the stars on Sapporo's monuments and on Chicago's flag, and the Sapporo-style miso bowl is the one to get.
Monster Ramen
Katie Dong's corner shop specializes in gyukotsu, a beef-bone ramen from southern Japan that's rare in the US. Take a seat at the kitchen counter to watch the bowls come together.
Ramen Wasabi
Open on Milwaukee Avenue since 2010, it simmers its Berkshire pork tonkotsu for 45 hours; get it with chashu and a soft egg, or the mushroom bowl if you're vegan. A second shop opened in Fulton Market; this is the original.
Hooligan
Christian Hunter, who earned Atelier its Michelin star, opened this 50-seat bistro in October and calls it neo-Midwestern: pike quenelle ravioli, perch with gribiche, hot water cornbread with liver parfait.
Middle Brow Bungalow
A Logan Square brewery, bakery and pizzeria on Armitage: loaves and egg sandwiches by day, sourdough pizza, house beer and Michigan-grown wine at night. Happy hour Wednesday to Friday, 4 to 6.
Bar Parisette
A Palmer Square wine bar and bistro from chef Madalyn Durrant, opening new bottles every week.
Where to drink
Best Intentions
Brothers Chris and Calvin Marty's Logan Square bar, back since 2023 and a 2025 James Beard nominee: dive comfort, sharp classics (the martini runs two parts gin to one vermouth) and frozen drinks, a smashburger and duck-fat matzo ball soup, plus a patio.
Meadowlark
A 30-seat bar on a quiet Palmer Street corner from the Lardon and Union team, marked only by a bird silhouette; the drinks list changes theme every few months.
Billy Sunday
Matthias Merges's Logan Square tavern with a deep amaro collection, classic-minded cocktails and house-made spirit-free drinks. Tuesday nights host a silent reading hour from 7.
Scofflaw
A gin-minded Logan Square bar from Whistler and Boiler Room veterans: a fireplace, a hand-drawn seasonal menu, a great burger and free cookies at midnight. Happy hour runs Monday to Thursday 5 to 7, and Friday to Sunday 3 to 5.
Culebra
A narrow, dark Puerto Rican and Caribbean cocktail bar below Lonesome Rose in Logan Square, built around rum, with a small island-inspired menu. Try the Malta highball, the spicy rum swizzle or the jibarito.
Hopewell Brewing Company
A bright, minimalist Logan Square taproom of glass and blond wood on Milwaukee: clean pales, lagers and sours, board games and food pop-ups. Bring your own food; dogs welcome.
La Licor Panamericana
A Logan Square bar and Latin American kitchen whose back bar runs deep on agave and rum, with small plates from Patagonia to Mexico off a wood fire. Happy hour runs 4 to 6:30 every day, and Fridays and Saturdays go late.
Easy Does It
A two-story wine shop and bar on Milwaukee: bottles shelved like a library downstairs, booths and occasional live music upstairs. Happy hour runs all night on Mondays.
Coffee and bakeries
Gaslight Coffee Roasters
Metropolis alums Tristan Coulter and Zak Rye roast on site at this Logan Square corner café of big windows and taxidermy; brunch plates are served Thursday to Sunday.
Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits
Logan Square's pie-and-biscuit cottage stacks its breakfast sandwiches on buttery house biscuits; eat at the picnic tables by the garden beds out back. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
Getting there
Take the Blue Line to Logan Square, which comes up on the square itself.
