Chicago brunch
Some of the best late-morning food here isn't called brunch: dim sum in Chinatown, a Puerto Rican buffet in Humboldt Park, a soul-food breakfast in Bronzeville.
8 of the 25
The Bongo Room
Wicker ParkBrunch café$$Pancakes are the point at this Wicker Park original, around since 1993: seasonal stacks like pumpkin with maple cream or ube with blueberry, and a towering chocolate French toast. Weekdays from 8:30, weekends from 9, until 2. The breakfast burrito and croissant sandwich have been on the menu since day one.
Lula Cafe
Logan SquareFarm-to-table cafe$$A Logan Square fixture since 1999 whose brunch helped define the neighborhood. The menu follows the farmers' market, so it shifts every few weeks.
Nellie's
Humboldt ParkPuerto Rican$$Billed as the city's only Puerto Rican brunch buffet: weekends 9 to 2, $25 a head with coffee and juice, for roast pork, pastelón and the coconut oatmeal regulars crave. Weekdays it's an omelet with salchichón and maduros.
Big Jones
AndersonvilleHeritage Southern$$Paul Fehribach's Southern kitchen saves some of its best for weekend brunch: beignets, shrimp with grits, and an egg-and-biscuit sandwich built on spicy Creole sausage.
Dolo
ChinatownDim sum$$Dim sum is Chinatown's brunch, and Dolo makes it to order every day from 10, with a shorter menu than its neighbors, a full bar and a durian pancake you won't find elsewhere. Bring a group so you can work through more.
Pearl's Place
BronzevilleSoul food$$A Bronzeville soul-food stalwart, and the all-you-can-eat breakfast is why: omelets and waffles made to order, grits, salmon croquettes and wings, for about $25 on weekdays and $30 on Sundays. Breakfast runs all day.
Mirra
BucktownIndian-Mexican$$$Rishi Kumar's Bucktown restaurant, a Michelin Bib Gourmand, fuses Indian and Mexican cooking. Weekend brunch (10:30 to 2) turns vada pav into a breakfast sandwich and puts tinga masala on huevos rancheros. Order the café de olla.
Little Goat Diner
LakeviewAll-day diner$$Stephanie Izard's diner on Southport, all swivel stools and tufted booths, with a menu of punny names that runs from pancakes to burgers, every day 8 to 9; save room for the Fry Pie, a holdover from her Sugargoat bakery. On Mondays an entrée after 4 earns a free mini sundae, Wednesdays pour $6 house wine, and on Tuesdays kids eat free.
The other 17
The 25 are spread across 18 neighborhoods. Wicker Park (3), Andersonville (2), Bronzeville (2), Lincoln Park (2), West Loop (2) and West Town (2) have the most; Bucktown, Chinatown, Fulton Market, Humboldt Park, Irving Park, Lakeview, Little Italy, Logan Square, North Park, Pilsen, Ravenswood and River North have one each.
+17 more in the app
A Swedish diner in Andersonville, a full English at a 1920s-London-style pub, a Korean-American brunch for groups, a blues brunch with beignets, and more.
